Bank robber strikes in Roseville

ROSEVILLE — Police and FBI officials are looking for a man who passed a note to a teller at a local bank at approximately 10 a.m. July 1 and walked out with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a slim black man between 40 and 45 years old. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white dress shirt with pinstripes and a multi-colored baseball cap.

The suspect walked into Key Bank, 31521 Gratiot, and handed the teller a note demanding money. The suspect fled in a gold-colored vehicle, but there was no information on the type of vehicle he left the bank in, according to police information.

While no one was injured during the robbery and no weapon was shown, robbing a bank comes with stiff penalties for the suspect compared to other types of robberies.

“It can be up to a life felony,” Deputy Police Chief James Berlin said.

Police are unsure at this time if the suspect can be linked to any other robberies in the area.

“The investigation’s just getting started,” Berlin said.

While Roseville hadn’t had a recent bank robbery to report, the Detroit FBI office has been busy the last couple of months with a serial bank robber who does not match the description of the suspect in the Roseville incident, according to a press release from the FBI.

The suspected serial robber has been named the “Heavy D Bandit” and has hit banks in several communities, including Pleasant Ridge, Livonia, Detroit and Redford. That suspect is wanted for robberies that started in late May, according to the press release.

Anyone with information on the Roseville bank robbery should call Roseville police at (586) 775-2100.
